Meeting with Avigdor Lieberman

On August 8, 2012 Senator Carr met with Israel’s Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem.
Discussions included Australia-Israel economic relations including resources and energy, regional security, and developments in Syria and Egypt.
Both Ministers also noted their concerns at Iran’s ongoing nuclear program.
Senator Carr expressed Australia’s concerns regarding the impasse in peace process negotiations and urged both parties to resume talks and raised human rights issues.
Senator Carr also raised Australia’s concerns regarding Israeli settlement activity in the Palestinian Territories.

Good, Bob, and I hope he had some useful things to say. I’m going to be in Israel again in October for more of my work in support of the Israeli Red Cross Society, Magen David Adom, and will also be looking at getting some Australian support for a project being financed by Hadassah Australia in support of Palestinians needing specialised health care from Hadassah hospital in Jerusalem. It’s a project which has strong support from the Palestinian Authority, and I hope we can find a way to get tax deductibility for Australian donations. / Chris
