Finally: Caro’s Fourth Book on LBJ
The long wait is coming to an end. Associated Press have announced the fourth volume of Robert Caro’s biography of LBJ, called “The Passage of Power”, will be out in May. This volume will cover the years 1958 to 1964, the time he began seeking the presidency, his years as Vice-President and the landslide 1964 win over Barry Goldwater. It will be 700 pages, a disappointment given that “Master of the Senate”, the previous book (released in 2002) reached 1,100.
The really good news is that we will get another volume covering his years in the presidency from 1964 to 1969. Guess we will have to wait a while.
Meanwhile, the fourth volume will be the first published in both hard-cover and electronic format, although later this month volumes I and II – “The Path to Power” and “Means of Ascent” – will be available as e-books. “Master of the Senate” can already be downloaded.
I can’t think of anyone who would not want to see these volumes on his or her shelf. E-books have their uses but not when it comes to sacred literature.
