Great News for Obama: The Gift of Gingrich

Newt Gingrich has never had an unexpressed thought. The mad professor damaging Romney, as he has done already in South Carolina, is a boon to the Democrats. But actually being baptized as the candidate of the Republican Party! Too much of a gift to be believed.

I am not blind to the risk. He is not unelectable. Obama will need strong signs of a recovering economy to win in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida. Gingrich will debate effectively and his madcap anger may well damage Obama’s solemn imperturbability. His line about Obama being a product of Saul Alinsky, of radical community-based inner city politics, shows his attack dog credentials. He has already been subject to attack ads from Romney’s PAC in Iowa and they didn’t hurt in South Carolina. Nor did the resurrection of his former wife hurt him by repelling women voters, as Dick Morris was assuring us on Fox it was bound to do – how could it in a country where most marriages end in divorce? And last minute personal attacks in campaigns are generally dismissed by the electorate.

But then…

As Speaker he closed down American government, alarmed most of his Republican colleagues for his style of government ( remember in the US system the Speaker has some of the functions of prime minister in ours ) was censured by the House for ethics violations.

His foreign policy prescriptions are as freaky as Goldwater’s in 1964. He just luvs the prospect of a sprawling war with Iran!

The Democrats are inferior campaigners – remember their losses to George W Bush – and not gifted at attack but surely they can kill this guy, as they say, “in the fall”.

    Dont agree Bob
He will make mincemeat of Obama, a President as bad as Jimmy Carter.

Well, Obama is a product of Saul Alinsky and he’s carting around more socialist baggage than Lee Rhiannon. No harm in saying that, since it’s true.
