Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee

September 8, 2012

Foreign Minister Bob Carr, Defence Minister Stephen Smith, and Trade and Competitiveness Minister Dr Craig Emerson will join their Singaporean counterparts next week for meetings of the 7th Singapore-Australia Joint Ministerial Committee (SAJMC).

The one-day talks on foreign affairs, defence and trade issues will commence on Monday September 10, 2012, in Parliament House, Canberra.

The SAJMC is an integral part of the Australia-Singapore bilateral relationship, providing a broad platform for Australian and Singaporean Ministers to discuss mutual strategic, defence, and trade interests and priorities.

The SAJMC was established in 1996 by the Singaporean and Australian Prime Ministers. Singapore will be represented at next week’s meeting by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law, K. Shanmugam; Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen; and Minister for Trade and Industry, Lim Hng Kiang.
