Arafat Jaradat

Foreign Minister Bob Carr today said the Australian Embassy in Tel Aviv had contacted Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs to raise the case of Mr Arafat Jaradat who died while in custody on February 23.

Senator Carr said Israeli authorities had confirmed that Mr Jaradat’s death was now the subject of a police investigation.

“Israeli authorities are aware of the significant international interest in this issue,” Senator Carr said.

“I welcome Israel’s confirmation that an investigation is under way

“It is important the circumstances of this death be thoroughly examined.”

    Thanks Bob. Everyone who is concerned about Arafat Jaradat and the thousands of other Palestinian prisoners who are being held by Israel welcome this small step in the direction of understanding the humanitarian catastrophe the Israeli occupation, land theft and illegal settlements are. It is time for Australia to take up this issue and get on the right side of history.
