I wrote My Reading Life in 2008. It is a celebration of the written word, of the pleasures of reading, of the enduring quest for knowledge.

I have always had a great love for books. Yet for many years the literary canon was alien to me. I didn’t know where to start, had no guide to place a comforting arm on my shoulder and say, ‘Now Tolstoy isn’t that hard.’ A few tips, a smattering of clues would have been deeply helpful.

My Reading Life doesn’t claim to be an exhaustive guide to the world of books. Rather, it aims to provide a kind of jumping off point for those who are curious.
